Fixed-Line Voice
Cable & Wireless offers “fixed-line” voice provider in the 13 countries where we operate. Across the region Cable & Wireless has welcomed competition, as it makes us stronger and more customer-focused. C&W has taken aggressive steps to simplify and balance customer pricing, with offers such as the first-ever Single National Rate in Jamaica. Listening attentively to customers has led to innovative products in a historically traditional business – as proven by the recent launch of the first-ever Pre-Paid Fixed line service to be offered in the Caribbean.
Broadband
Cable & Wireless brought the Internet to the Caribbean over 10 years ago, and we continue to expand possibilities for communication and to access information, by offering enhanced data speeds and accessible pricing. Our broadband customer base has doubled every year for the past two years – and in some C&W markets, broadband penetration today exceeds that of levels in the US and the UK. We have launched a low-cost Max ® internet access unit into each of our markets, to stop the cost of a computer from being a barrier to access to information technology.
In 2005, Cable & Wireless broke down barriers to communication even further with the launch of NetSpeak, a Voice-Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, in every Caribbean market. NetSpeak revolutionized costs for long-distance calling, with monthly unlimited plans for calling within the Caribbean, and to North America and the UK.
We currently offer WiFi hotspot service in key locations (airport terminals, hotels) in nine Caribbean markets, with plans to continue proliferation of hotspots throughout the coming year.
Mobile
Cable & Wireless currently provides Mobile service in 12 out of the 13 markets in which we operate – with the final of these, the British Virgin Islands, set to launch this year. Our leadership position in most markets can be attributed to two things: network reliability and innovative offerings. We invested over £200 million in our Caribbean mobile networks between the years 2003-2005, and the benefits to our customers were highlighted particularly when ours were the only networks to withstand hurricane Ivan in 2004. Our mobile networks are measured against strict global benchmarks and consistently perform wel,l measured not only against local competition but also on a global scale.
Giving customers the products and services they want has encouraged them to customers to stay with – or come back to – bmobile, amidst a very exciting and dynamic competitive Mobile landscape. Propositions such as the Anyone plans in Jamaica and Free After Five in the Eastern Caribbean have enabled customers to get more value from their wireless plans than ever before. And, with a wide range of exclusive content (ringtones, wallpapers) via both text and our bmobile Pulse WAP portal, we have seen usage of mobile content double amongst our customers over the past year. Our exclusive sponsorships in music and sports will provide additional opportunities to personalize and interact with their mobile service in the coming months.
Our Sponsorships
Cable & Wireless has developed key regional sponsorships that reflect the passions of Caribbean people and the rhythms of Caribbean life – while creating exclusive opportunities for our businesses and for our customers:
In addition to our regional sponsorships, local sponsorships with music and sports organizations reflect our support for Caribbean culture and provide opportunities for Cable & Wireless to demonstrate its commitment to the community
