MTV Tempo

Providing the best content for our users is an important objective in our mission to offer the most complete suite of services in the Caribbean.

Music is undoubtedly the most popular type of digital content nowadays. Our users are demanding more content to utilize them via their mobile phones (ring tones, true tones, games, wall papers) or via the Internet (streaming audio and video). Today, besides the capabilities and services we might offer to our clients, content is quickly becoming a critical feature that customers want and that we, are required to provide.

Because of these new market conditions and because of the significance of music in the Caribbean culture, in February 2006, Cable and Wireless decide to sign a multi-year partnership agreement with TEMPO, the new MTV Caribbean channel.

We are very excited about this sponsorship that allows us to partner with one of the strongest brands in the world and provides us with a unique suite of exclusive content from Tempo for our customers particularly the youth market, a segment that we are really committed to.

The partnership with Tempo, a true regional deal, provides us with rights for exclusive promotion and branding of services while leveraging our brands to attract young people.

The deal includes on-air and off-air sponsorship and activation activities. Our bMobile customers will enjoy exclusive wireless content including ring tones, wallpapers, graphics, promotions and games. Our Broadband users will enjoy exclusive audio and video broadband content from MTV and Tempo. And of course, we will bring fantastic merchandising opportunities such as co-branded handsets and accessories. Finally, Tempo and Cable and Wireless also are joining forces to be present at the most important local events in the Caribbean and bring the essence to our partnerships to the local people directly.

We are premier sponsors of two of the main Tempo shows: Cross Caribbean Countdown and Pull-Up Selecta. During the upcoming months, we will bring exciting activities and promotions for our young viewers of these two shows and bMobile users.

TEMPO is the first and only network dedicated to all things Caribbean—music, culture, travels, community, sports, and so much more. TEMPO is a music driven lifestyle channel for Caribbean people and for lovers of Caribbean culture.

Tempo, a new cable television network dedicated to Caribbean music and culture, was launched by MTV Networks, a division of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA, VIAB) in October of 2005. The new channel is advertiser-supported, and targets all people with a passion for the Caribbean lifestyle. The channel provides a mix of original and acquired programming that is vibrant, relevant to its audience and true to the spirit of the Caribbean and its culture.

Tempo airs a mix of original and acquired programming, including series, specials, movies, documentaries and sporting events. The channel’s shows includes offerings from MTV Networks’ long form programming library as well as series from local Caribbean networks.

Eight months after the station was launched in over 15 Caribbean countries many artistes are impressed with the station, which singer Pliers describes as "it's beautiful, real nice." With many Jamaican stations not giving videos of yesteryear a second glance because they are often preoccupied with new artistes, Pliers says Tempo is a vehicle through which many young people are able learn about what went before.
